PE and games

PE and Games

Navy blue knickers, singlets and pumps.
The buck and the horse, making star jumps.
PE and games in our old brick High school,
icy cold showers that bordered on cruel.

Bully off in hockey, the crack of the sticks,
our games mistress taught us all her old tricks.
freezing cold legs covered in goose bumps,
if you forgot kit, you were for the high jump.

Cross country runs that I tried hard to miss,
don’t seem so bad when I now reminisce.
girls picking teams, I was always the last,
everyone else could run really fast.

Rounders and fielding in fields full of daisies,
if you didn’t join in you were told you were lazy.
Netball with bibs so you knew where to go,
I didn’t make the team, they said I was slow.

But half times were bliss when they gave you a plate,
juicy slices of orange, I could hardly wait.
to share them all out and put the peel over gums,
now they’re happy memories of smiling with chums!
