Pay it Forward

This poem is based on a true story by Irene Kerr, about a random act of kindness ….

‘Pay it forward’

I thought I’d get a pedicure
It was certainly overdue
Prepare my peds for sandals
Perhaps get something new

The joy of being pampered
It’s really such a treat
To sit in the massage chair
As someone does your feet

Those days of bending over
To paint or file your toes
Necessitates some contortion
Most everybody knows

As long as I was present
At the local superstore
I might as well grab groceries
As I’d often done before

I packed them in my vehicle
Drove off to my next stop
Found my purse was missing
I thought my heart would stop

Did I leave it in the trolley
Where else could that bag be
Oh please let someone honest
Return my purse to me

Thank God for honest women
She’d seen and realised
A purse left in a car park
Another’s certain prize

She left my purse in safety
I found it in the store
All things intact and counted
Just as they were before

I can only pay it forward
Most definitely I will do
To thank that honest lady
Who made my prayers come true.
