Our Wonderful Queen

As we approach the Platinum Jubilee, I have written this poem about our wonderful Queen.

I have come, Maam,
To show my esteem,
To the person who heads up
Our great royal team

You always engaged with us,
Didn’t look down,
You held your head high,
When you wore your gold crown

You never bunked off,
Or took part in strikes,
There’s no Queen’s union
To uphold your rights

I’ve not heard you say
That ‘Life isn’t fair’
You just served us well
Showing how much you care

You couldn’t do Facebook
Post selfies on Twitter,
You stayed so composed,
Never twisted or bitter

And all those PMs
That you greeted with charm!
That’s fourteen so far,
You were ever so calm

Did you long to go shopping
Whilst wearing your slippers,
Join queues for the sales
Book days out with the trippers,

Maybe sit in the pub
With an excess of wine,
Tell the punters out loud
Who you want to resign?

We do notice you know,
Keeping silent is tough,
No public emotions
When you’re feeling rough

How you lost your dear Duke,
Sat alone in a pew,
With no one for comfort
To sit next to you

You walk tall in your role,
Wearing hats and posh frocks,
We just want you to know
That your dignity rocks!
