Our Fallen Hero

This poignant poem was written by Paul Copland which he wrote a while ago from the eyes of a fallen soldier.

Being part of a military family having friends who are fallen heroes it felt so right at the time to put my own feelings into words.

Our Fallen Hero

An angel took my hand today
My soul released from pain
No fear from man or beings
She led me to her land

My heart so full of love now
I came to understand
My life was only starting
Not left upon that ground

I saw my friends below me
As a wounded body fades
Their grief was felt within me
My life with them I praised

I saw those close at home
the call came they all dread
My life is still here with you
Be strong I am not dead

I watch you try to sleep at night
I wipe away your tears
And when your sad and broken
I listen to your fears

Close your eyes and you will see me
When there is silence hear my voice
For you know I am your hero
And will be all my life

So worry not about me
As I stay by your side
till its time for you to join me
In love we will reside
