Old Age Is Knocking On My Door

I wrote this little poem about getting older.  You really do have to see the funny side don’t you and embrace each new day.

Old Age Is Knocking On My Door

I’m growing old, that’s for sure
Old age is knocking on my door
But I won’t let it get me down
My smile will always beat my frown

The menopause, how tough is that
I seem to have grown more belly fat
Full steam ahead, my body rushes
My clothes are soaked from these hot flushes!

My once smooth face, cared for with pride
Looks far more like a prune that’s dried
Looking at the wrinkles, I do despair
As long, wiry hairs are protruding there!!

My boobs, they were my greatest gift
The perfect size, no need of a lift
Bra now removed; they sag down low
Back in their harness they must go

As for the aches, what can I say
My bones they creak more every day
My hips are stiff, my joints are sore
But I carry on as I did before

My minds still crisp, to a degree
Old age, it does play tricks you see
Standing inside the grocery store
No idea what I went in there for!

The trick is to see the funny side
And wear your advancing years with pride
How lucky are we to get this far
Our aches and pains a worthy scar
