Ode to the Unwary

Ode to the Unwary

If you come to visit in St Ives
There’s someone who affects our lives
You may have read or even heard
About that Steve, our greedy bird

He has a mate, consummate diva
Excellent flyer and practiced thiever
She flies down panache and grace
Pouts her beak in your face

Up on high a mournful cry
Steve looks down with eagles eye
Oblivious with those fish and chips
Not a morsel meets your lips.

Steve flies off with food a plenty
In a flash your hand is empty
Diva gone her job is done
You have lost seagulls won

Humour done now here’s a thought
Seagull’s greed by us was taught
To snatch your food, sit and gloat
Easier than chasing a fishing boat.
