A ‘Cluster’ of Crime Writers came to visit us on Bute
a glorious weekend of murder and mystery to execute
The camaraderie evident and could be both felt and seen
even during the grudge match on the putting green

The task at hand to Educate, Entertain and Amuse
pity any brave soul who tried for a wee snooze
All eleven events were packed to the rafters
they left everyone calling for more and wanting afters

Event organisers had gone through blood, sweat and tears
Their success measured by loud applause and cheers
From Serial Killers through to Cosy Crime
audiences were offered insider anecdotes and had a great time

Budding crime writers heard of routine and ritual
and how dedication with hard work must become habitual
A thick skin is essential if a writing career you wish to pursue
be prepared to cut and edit or perhaps start anew

An ability to keep going and avoid saying “I can’t”
can be banished by the use of a good Scottish Rant
Research and Location were a recurring theme
one dedicated writer was off to investigate Bute ice cream

Everyone enjoyed the story of youths who almost came to blows
it was presented by the writer and titled “Puck Knows”
The finale quiz was going just fine
until the intervention of spilled wine

The writer’s true competitive spirit was on view
as good natured banter and insults flew
Heading home tired but elated we said a sad Au Revoir
but look forward to next year’s Bute Noir
