No Grey Area
This thought provoking, reflective poem was written by Martin Silvester …
No Grey Area
Will anyone remember, all the things that I have done,
Will anyone remember, when my life finishes it’s run.
My growing up, my learning curves, my ups and downs in life,
My happy times, my sad times and the years shared with my wife.
Will anyone remember, or will memories just fade,
Did my being here have meaning? What difference have I made?
I know I’ve cried a lot of tears and I know I’ve laughed a lot,
I know I’ve made a few mistakes, perhaps sometimes, lost the plot.
But always I’ve just carried on, trying to do my best,
And I’ve always carried a lot of love, deep within my breast.
I’ve always had to work hard, to earn my daily bread,
But it was always worth the effort, to keep my family fed.
I’m not a clever person, I did not do well at school,
And to cover up my lack of brain, I’d sometimes act the fool,
I have met a lot of people, in my wanderings so far,
Never had a lot of money, never driven a new car.
Cruel words sometimes have hurt me, made me question things I’ve done,
And problems that I’ve had to face, have sometimes weighed a ton.
I have given people my advice, but can someone tell me why…
I can’t seem to take my own advice, although I really try.
I sometimes wish that I could change and just go with the flow,
Not try to get things done today, but save it for tomorrow.
For me there is no grey area, just a simple black or white,
Wrong is always wrong to me and right is always right.
No perhaps or maybe, I don’t like leaving things on hold,
Sometimes..less is more, apparently, or so I have been told.
So perhaps I ought to change my ways, keep calm, not rush and tear,
I might find my life more peaceful, if I’m not rushing..here and there.
