Night Story
Night story
Underneath the calm ethereal full moon
The barn owl opens his sleepy eye.
Gnarled old trees dressed in black night velvet
Under diamond stars, bright in the sky
A farmhouse sleeps in the trees’ dark shadow
Where a small mouse lies quivering with fright.
A stealthy fox with moonlight in his eyes
In fields, bathed in sunset’s light.
The cat’s eyes glisten and his sleek fur shines
Under the moons cold light
While in the sleeping countryside
Are echo’s of goodnight, goodnight.
The night winds stir in the rustling trees
As the barn owl flies in silent flight
And everywhere as people sleep
Slowly falls the curtain of the night.
