New Year’s Eve 2020

Four years ago I spent an unforgettable New Years Eve. I then made myself two promises. That I was going to stay on my own and each year scribble a couple of verses as a reminder. Here’s this years.

New Year’s Eve 2020

It’s New Year’s Eve 2020, and I’m still on my own
But as Queen of my domain, I have no cause to moan
I admit I do like company, enjoy going out with friends
To dancing, theatre, trips and shops, burn candle at both ends

When very early in the year, Covid reared its head
Halted all my escapades, I was locked up instead
But if  I do get lonely, there’s the telephone or zoom
Plus all the advantages, no need clean the room

I can stay in my pyjamas, the penny will not drop
Just brush my hair n’ not forget, to don a snazzy top
I’ll dim the lights use candles, to give a rosy glow
They’ll only see a bit of me, so they will never know

I’ll do exactly as I choose, on the 31st I plan
To stay awake,  ensure year’s  gone, and another one began
I’ll drink to all the loved ones lost and pray for those still here
That we will have  a vaccine ……and a  virus-free New Year

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..
