Nature’s Courtin’ of the Birds
Nature’s Courtin’ of the Birds
Oh, the courtin’ is a-startin’ and the ladybirds are tartin’
Themselves up to meet their Beau’s who are lining up in rows.
Lady Thrush is in the tree and here comes number three
To try to court her favour, but he needs to be much braver!
She’s being very coy and he’s trying hard, poor boy
With his feathers all a-quiver, it gives me quite a shiver
To watch this grand display, but to his great dismay
She won’t give an inch, only a brief look at a pinch.
He thought all was lost, but her beautiful head she tossed
And, hopping higher up the tree, her call said “Follow me”
With a cry of sheer delight he quickly took to flight
And landing lightly on her bough he’s feeling better now
As a spectator of the show of Lady Bird and her Beau
‘Tis a privilege to observe Nature’s courtin’ of the birds.
