My Whole Life

70 years served proudly and unselfishly

My whole life

That promise that you made to us many years long gone,
Has been upheld, revered and honoured through your days,
Our rock and our stability your banner proudly shone,
As our pride evolved in the knowledge of your phrase,

“My whole life”, was your beginning of the promise that you made,
“Be it short or long”, that followed on behind,
“Shall be devoted to your service”, was your final accolade,
As those words impacted strongly in my mind.

I have watched you grow majestically into this role you swore to bear,
I have seen you much admired throughout this land,
I have never seen you waver always watched as you stood there,
As you mesmerised us all with just a wave from your small hand.

Your duty done and proudly so, your promise still held true,
A lesson here for others to observe,
No word can here describe the admiration held for you,
And your description of that wording said. – ‘To serve’.

God bless you your Majesty

Mick.

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
