My thanks

My thanks

Sometimes I know, you cannot see,
The love I hold, inside of me,
Sometimes I am so quiet in my ways.
But there you are now, this is me,
And what you get is what you see,
But I will love you always for my days.

It’s just me here, look inside my mind,
A little closer, you will find,
A heart that’s beating just so ever strong.
I still feel hurt, I still feel pain,
And every day is just the same,
A struggle here for me to get along.

The help you give I recognise,
And though sometimes I shout and sigh,
I try so hard to thank you, as I go.
Forget the silly ways I walk,
And the slurring sluggish way I talk,
That’s just me saying that,  I love you so!

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
