My Mother’s Day Dilemma!
My Mother’s Day Dilemma!
Mother’s Day is here again
I’m searching for a gift in vain
Flowers, chocolates or a trinket
Trying not to overthink it
What to get to make her smile
How to go the extra mile
For the one who’s nurtured me
Made my bed and cooked my tea
Picked me up when I was down
Made me laugh and stopped the frown
What to buy to give her pleasure
Something that she’ll always treasure
Something that won’t cost the earth
Just a thank you for my birth
Try and try I can’t decide
Having wandered far and wide
Mooching round from shop to shop
Searching until fit to drop
Nothing seems to show her how
Much I love her even now
In the end I ask my son
To make a card that’s filled with fun
He cuts and glues and then he draws
A great big heart with lots of doors
So each one opens and behind
He writes a word that she must find
That let’s her know how much we think
Of Mum and Grandma, drawn in pink
“Shall we give your card?” I say
“Oh yes please,” so on the day
Card is given, nothing more
And as we leave and reach the door
She waves goodbye and calls out loud
That we both make her very proud
That time with us to laugh and share
Was better than commercial fayre
We drove away, she shed a tear
We love you Mum, all through the year.
