My Heart Is Breaking
For World Alzheimer’s Month:
My Heart Is Breaking
My heart is breaking, being slowly chipped away
As I lose a little more of you every single day
I cannot understand how this world can be so cruel
You to me are everything, my lifeline, blood, and fuel
I do my best to help you, to soothe you and to care
Sometimes I find the journey tough but, still I’m always there
I can see that you are suffering and want to ease your pain
I’m here, I’m right beside you dear, and here I will remain
The guilt, it overwhelms me, when my patience peters out
It’s not your fault, I know that, please forgive me when I shout
My mind is filled with sorrow, panic, loss, and endless fear
I hope that you don’t notice that I sometimes shed a tear
I dread when the day comes that you no longer know my name
Or who I am to you, life will never be the same
It won’t be through lack of trying, as I keep your mind alive
I’ve got you and you’ve got me, together we survive
If I could change places with you, just know I truly would
Or find a cure for this cruel disease, oh how I wish I could
This illness, it may take you and tear our lives apart
But please my love, always know, you’ll be forever in my heart
