Christmas 2020 rounded off a year of troubles,
Rules and tiers, face masks and fears and forming family bubbles.
So let Santa with his magic sleigh, whoosh you back in time.
Whilst I mull over memories with “mistletoe and wine”.

We dressed the tree with fragile baubles, fairy on the top,
And lots of coloured plastic lights…. ‘til one of them went pop!
We made paper chains and paper lanterns, homemade Christmas cheer.
A Mince pie out for Santa and a carrot for his deer.

Empty pillowcase on bed end, too thrilled to get to sleep.
“I’m sure I heard him creeping in, but I definitely dare not peep”.
“He’s been, he’s been!”, sweet childhood memories simply take me back.
Can YOU recall from long ago what he put in YOUR sack?

Who remembers Space Hoppers or knuckle bashing Clackers,
Or Stylophones whose spooky sound drove everybody crackers?
Spirograph or Etch a Sketch or Airfix model kits?
Roller Skates or Hula Hoops or bouncing Pogo Sticks?

Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Corgi cars or mighty Tonka trucks?
Meccano, Lego building sets complete with instruction books?
Mousetrap, Twister and Kerplunk or buzzing Operation?
Racing cars by Scalextric or Train sets with a station?

Chatty Cathy, Action Man, Tiny Tears or Trolls?
Sindy, Tammy, Tressy, Toots or Barbie fashion dolls?
Who got a yearly Annual? Books for both girls and boys.
