Lurking by the knickers

Lurking by the knickers

Lurking by the knickers..hand resting on my trolly,
Lured into shopping once again..I reflected on my folly.
I was standing very patiently..while the missus chose a bra,
Thinking of just normal things..like..did I lock the car.

I heard a voice behind me..felt a tap upon my arm,
Thinking I was in the way..I moved sideways in alarm.
My trolly hit a hanging rail..knickers tumbled down,
I thought..I should have stayed at home..and not come into town.

By now everyone was staring..so I did a handbrake turn,
Skidding through the knickers..when will I ever learn.
I let go the trolly handle..watched with horror as it flew,
Straight into a bra display..that toppled over too.

The silence in the aftermath..was just too much to bear,
And the lady who had tapped my arm..was still stood standing there.
I’m very sorry young man..I’m very short as you can see,
I was going to ask you to pass..one of those high bra’s down to me.

So we waded through the wreckage..looking for her size,
Then my wife returned and l could see..the horror in her eyes.
Passers by were grinning..giving little snickers,
While I was wishing that I hadn’t stood..lurking by the knickers.

The manager, when he arrived..stood with hands on hips.
Explanations and apologies..tumbled from my lips.
An accident, and displays top heavy..fell on stony ground,
And my wife and the short lady..were nowhere to be found.

Maintenance to lingerie..I heard the tannoy call,
So I trundled off to checkout..With no pride left at all.
The short lady re-appeared..as we approached our car,
Smiling sweetly, she gently said..well at least I got my bra.

Not a lot to tell...just an ordinary man...always loved writing but never had the time until now...hope I've got a few years left to write about the million things I would like to get down on paper be it in poetry form or just plain old story telling. Just in case anyone would like me to come along to their group and read a few of my poems live..I would be happy to do so within the confines of Kent or Sussex...I would just need to cover my time and petrol costs...plus a cup of tea and a biscuit. Just email [email protected] To answer some of your questions= ex-army..ex -jackeroo...ex-builder..ex-quite a few other things..still rocking...married...2 + 3 children...7 grandchildren...retired...love custard creams. I have now published my first collection of poems which are now available on Amazon under the title of..LAST APPLE ON THE TREE. The book consists of twenty seven poems covering a wide range of topics and emotions. My second book has just been published and is called A BREEZE IN THE WILLOWS, also available on Amazon. I hope that everyone will get as much enjoyment reading them, as I did writing them.
