Love Light

Love light

Leave a light on for me, burning ever bright,
To help me on my journey, in the black of night,
Leave a fire burning, leave the coals aglow,
Help me light my journey in the afterglow.

Leave a candle burning, and the gate just off the catch,
Listen for my footsteps and my key within the latch,
Leave your arms wide open, for my tender sweet embrace,
And feel my gentle kisses, on your loving loyal face.

Leave your heart still burning, for what we had before,
Long before I went away, to walk through heaven`s door,
And leave that ‘love-light shinin’, deep inside your heart,
And never be a pining, for never did we part.

So leave a light on for me, and hold my heart with you,
And take my heart and all we had, and keep it with you too,
For what was once, will always be, defend it with your might,
And to remind you of our burning love,  look toward the light.

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
