Look me in the eye
I know that I am one of the few,
without a mobile phone.
you can see that I am telling the truth,
I don’t speak when I’m on my own.
There’s fax and text and email,
that removes the need for speech,
and letter writing is a thing of the past,
that schools no longer teach.
So, bring out a pen and some paper’
for friends who would love to read
a long and newsy letter,
that has nothing to do with speed.
Then, on with your coat, and out you go,
your heart is pumping, and your legs are in gear,
to post your very first letter,
that starts with the words “My Dear”.
When the phone rings, you answer,
sadly knowing what will be said,
“I don’t have time to write letters,
so I thought I would ring you instead.”
