Little Lad

Little Lad

“Hello Mummy, hello Dad,
It is me! – your little lad,
Hello Nanny, Grandad too,
Ooh, I am so glad I came to you.

Will you all watch me, as I grow?
I know that you all love me so,
I have so many things to do,
But I know I can rely on you.

I have to bounce on Nanny’s knee,
My Dad must sit and read to me,
My Grandad’s here for times of play,
My Mom? She loves me all the day.

I know that you will teach me well,
And many stories you will tell,
For you have pride, and proud am I,
To grow with you as time goes by.

So, hello Mommy, hello Dad,
This is me ! – your little lad,
Hello Nanny, Grandad too,
Ooh, I am so glad, – I came to you”.

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
