I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

In view of recent revelations regarding Boris, the UK Government and those ‘Do as I say and not as I do’ parties in the early days of Covid, I have written this.

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vale and hill,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
The sight of which made me stand still.
Beside the lake,
Beneath the trees.
Mingling closely in the breeze….

….Continuous in unbroken line
Along the margin of the bay.
Laughing out loud, ‘neath moonshine
They danced the night away.
Flouting the rules,
Engaging in revels
Like Bacchanalian, miscreant devils.

Not for them the isolation
Which Covid-19 brings.
A locked-down, solitary Nation
And many unpleasant things.
I gazed and gazed
But little thought
The strife which on this day would be wrought.

As I heard them carouse in lusty bass and trebles,
This Poet could not be but gay
To think these daring rebels
Had somehow broken away.
Some oddly familiar
But I felt free
To be in jocund company.

The Police arrived. The crowd was nabbed.
Mine eyes? They scarce had time to blink.
My fingers on each hand were dabbed
And they threw me in the clink
With none other than,
And if you please,
Boris Johnson and many MPs.

Now oft, when on my prison bed I lay
In vacant or in pensive thought,
I look back upon that fateful day
When Her Majesty’s Government were caught
Beside the lake
Beneath the trees
Cavorting wildly in the breeze.

Postscript:

This Poet’s flowery words have gone.
I’ve lost all decorum.
I’ve writ large on my cell walls:
‘BORIS, THE TW*T IS A MORON’.
