I Care
I have written this poem about caring for my husband who has dementia…
I Care
I care…
I care about your happiness, your shrinking hopes, your pain,
Forgive me when I bristle, when my face reveals the strain
I care…
I care about your welfare, want your clothing to look neat,
Forgive my hurried actions, my impatient tap of feet
I care…
I care about your diet, try to offer tempting food,
Forgive me when I grumble or the work affects my mood
I care…
I care about your outings, want to drive you in the car,
Forgive my slight resistance for the journeys are not far
I care…
I care that you supported me in times when we could share,
And now I will be there for you, because you know I care
