Human disgrace!

Human disgrace!

Wild horses run free as the pride of their race ,
And are not as the ‘chattels’ of men,
They will not parade, in the raucous cruel race,
To be slaughtered, again and again.

They will not hear the haughty men cheer,
Short after that race has begun,
As they race from their stall, and the fence makes them fall,
And succumb to the ‘slaughter mans’ gun.

Again, and again, as they sip their champagne,
And they wager their bet for the day,
They do not see the animal dying in pain,
And the carcass they then drag away.

A ‘human’ does this, (For enjoyment?)
For watching, ‘The thrill of the chase’,
Some people do this, (For employment ?)
I feel, it’s a ‘human disgrace’.

All animals here are our equal,
And not, ‘as the chattels of men’,
To be shown, as a ‘toy’, as the sequel,
To be slaughtered, again, and again!

I hate the ‘Grand National’

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
