How?

How?

How do I do this, where do I start,
To pack up these things I hold dear in my heart,
Each place that I look, every object I see,
Is a reminder of the love that was given to me.

How do I move all the memories here,
That remind me of someone I hold very near,
A place where the happiness sang it’s own song,
A home, where my life and my love still belong.

How do I empty these rooms on this day,
What can I keep, what can I throw away,
Each place that I go, holds a story for me,
Each place that I go, holds a life’s history.

Each little ornament handled with care,
Reflections of life – lived, are still within there,
I still feel the love that is here in this place,
And I still see the smile, that you held on your face.

The tools in your shed, where you crafted our life,
These gifts that you made us throughout your proud life,
They are all here, and it just brings a tear,
To disturb all this lifetime of history here.

How can I do this, when this is all said,
Yes! I know there are cobwebs inside your old shed,
I know that your spirit still walks in this place,
But how do I remove, what I cannot replace?

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
