Haiku in the Garden

Haiku in the Garden

Hard spring frost…
birdsong greets the dawn
daffodils stand tall

April birdsong…
The old gardener
turns off his radio

Transplanting seedlings …
happy in
a low-tech world

Dried mealworms
in a coconut shell…
robins return

beneath the bird table…
a tiny mouse scurries
to reap the spillage

digging out compost…
entwined worms
writhe away from sunlight

Summer Solstice…
sunflowers
worship the sun

gentle breeze…
fuchsias pirouette
like ballerinas

scattering wildflower seeds…
giving nature
a helping hand

The gardener’s
favourite jumper…
now with elbow pads

November days…
the colours of summer
just a memory

I'm a tall, not too dark, not very handsome man with one wife, three children, six grandchildren and a wonky leg. Poetry is the vocabulary of my heart and soul... and occasionally my rear end.
