Granpa

Granpa

“Granpa what is it like being old”
From such a young lady a question so bold
Not so bad if you’re able and healthy
Some might say better if you’re just a touch wealthy

Sometimes it’s good sometimes it’s not
Doing your best with what you’ve got
Granpa you sit in the chair always sleeping
Just resting my eyes little one, sometimes peeping

In getting old we tire more so
We tend to lose the get up and go
All day you young ones can run around
Come lunch time for us our spring’s unwound

Granpa you seem to have more skin
It’s all loose round your eyes and chin
I have to chuckle, didn’t see that one
Just for a second I am undone

Like elastic it loses its stretchiness my dear
Oh my Word I’m not making myself clear
Granpa you’re coughing, do you have a cold
No little one it’s just me being old

Things don’t work as well as they used to
Not like you my girl, still brand new
But I’m okay getting a little slow
I was just like you a while ago

Granpa how do your teeth come out mine don’t
I’ve pulled and pulled and still they won’t
Well my Princess, I’ll tell you true
You were born later , lucky you

That’s why Mommy makes you brush, be more aware
Look after your teeth, treat them with care
Granpa I still don’t understand why yours come out
How you walk around sometimes without

Princess I think your bedtime is approaching fast
Looking at the clock it’s just gone past
Quick undress, PJs on, your mother’s getting near
Yes I’ll tell you a bedtime story dear
