Goodbye Scotland
This light hearted, topical poem is written by Teresa Harrison-Best who says ” I couldn’t resist writing about the possible outcome of Scotland getting their independence; I have kept light and silly”
Goodbye Scotland
Are we saying goodbye to the tartan?
Are we saying farewell to the kilt?
Is it bon voyage to the Saltire?
Is it England they’re wanting to jilt?
So what becomes of the haggis
and all the tatties and neeps?
Will Robbie be quoted on Burns night,
or will they want a clean sweep?
Will Hogmanay become a has-been,
with New Year dead in the ditch.
With no whisky to toast celebrations,
we think that may cause a small glitch.
Then what do we do about mountains,
with Ben Nevis no longer within?
The three peaks becomes just a duo,
it hasn’t quite got the same ring!
With fresh salmon now clean off the menu
in the doldrums I think we may dwell.
The Bank of Scotland’s sadly departing
and they’re keeping the midges as well!
They’re taking the high road before us,
Loch Lomond is bidding goodbye.
It’s arrivederci from Nessie,
but not a single tear in her eye.
Will Scotland dispense with the monarch,
and who would the president be?
Hadrians Wall reassembled
right into the precious North Sea.
With a sad cheerio from the English,
Northern Ireland and Wales both agree,
if the Scots want to go independent
we’ll muddle along just as three!
( But if it’s a ‘No’ vote, then that’s fine as well! )
