Goodbye 2015

In no particular order. Like previous poems that celebrated key events I have tried to stay away from the doom and gloom.

Here goes!

Goodbye 2015

Another year has been and gone,
some aspects good, some things quite wrong!
World football’s now in disarray,
Sepp and friends have gone astray.

Greece has ducked the Euro chop,
on paying loans they’ve shut up shop.
Libby Lane’s a Bishop now,
she deserves reverend bow.

Clarkson, Hamond and James May
have left the ‘Beeb’ without delay.
British Steel, defunct and scrapped,
Killingley’s coalmine is now capped.

The North of England needs an Ark,
as the rainfall there is off the mark.
Mars has water flowing too,
Nasa says the story’s true.

The Queen has records of her own,
the longest monarch on the throne.
Princess Charlotte born to Kate,
young George has got a new playmate.

Dave is back at number ten,
poor Ed’s now out without a friend.
The Liberals wounded and distraught,
UKIP’s threat just came to naught.

We remembered Auschwitz with respect,
a time to honour and reflect.
The nation joined to mark D-Day
giving thanks to all who paved the way.

Bernard won the nations heart,
for his great escape to take a part.
He went France to join the rest
and really stirred a hornets nest!

England cricket came up trumps
to take those vital Aussie stumps.
The Ashes are now safe and well
lets hope they have a lucky spell!

Emissions blight the German car,
the figures rigged and out by far.
Oh dear they’ve lost the publics trust
now many cars will stand and rust.

Discworld’s lost its fitting king,
Hot Chocolate has no Sexy Thing.
As Starwars hits the silver screen,
with hope to sweep the ratings clean.

Fred Perry would be proud for sure
at Britain’s perfect winning score.
The Davis cup is back at last
a change of fortune has been cast.

Redmayne acted with great flair,
a theory that just lead him there.
Stephen Hawkins made his fame,
and Oscar blessed his new acclaim.

Jeremy Corbyn’s joined the scene,
his policies remain unseen.
Jez takes photo’s of old drains,
he’s bizarre the Press complains.

No Vulcan grip now Spock has gone,
Lemmy‘s had his final song.
Liverpool has lost their lass,
as Cilla’s death has come to pass.

Barbara Windsor’s now a dame,
‘what a Carry On’ is our refrain.
The chosen one has lost the plot,
now Chelsea has a open slot.

Please forgive the ones I miss
I’d rally on if you insist.
Farewell, goodbye to another year,
we’ll toast the next with buoyant cheer.
