Getting Old
Getting Old
We go through life wishing our life away
Our young days enjoyable child’s play
Reaching our teens we start wishing we were older
Thinking each year that comes along will soon be over
The changes in life brought about by getting older and wiser
The greying of one’s hair and wrinkles things harder to decipher
Our bodies aches and pains are slowing us down
Thinking we are invincible and we’ll always be around
In our minds we don’t seem to alter, forever young
Difficult to comprehend for those we live among
Few years down the line the loss of hair and teeth for some
Altering one’s appearance no toothy smile just a wide expanse of gum
Our deformed hands and fingers distorted uncomfortably gnarled
Loss of inhibitions saying just what we think without a care in the world
Eccentricities begin to creep in saying what we think no holds barred
The profanities that come out of our mouths puts everyone on guard
For some the memory starts to go and things are hard to comprehend
Transgressed back to childhood no recognition of family or friends
Life is definitely too short so need to live it to the full whilst we can
Fore-fill all one’s dreams enjoy every adventure during our lifespan
