Friendship

Next weekend sees the arrival of International Friendship Day… so here’s a poem I wrote today…

There is a treasure greater
than all the gold on earth,
something that we’re born with,
inherent at our birth.

The power to form friendships,
bonds, that last for years,
those guiding lights on darker nights,
our trusted musketeers!

Friends may spot our problems
then help us to break free,
sharing options, choices, paths
we do not always see.

Friends bring strength in numbers,
yet help us stand alone,
for in a world so full of fears,
they make us feel at home.

In the end, a group of friends
is all we really need,
for life may have its challenges,
but friends mean more indeed.

Let’s exercise our friendship muscle,
whilst we have the time
find a friend, and to that end,
please share this little rhyme!

"My interest in poetry was rekindled in November 2017 when I was launching a literary trail on the Isle of Wight. The event was held at Farringford, the home of Alfred Lord Tennyson, and I read “Crossing the Bar" at the event. At the same time I was creating a tie-in with Michael Rosen’s children’s story “We’re going on a Bear Hunt” for a family trail the following Spring. Immersed as I was in the subject matter at the time, I started to think about writing poetry myself". Four years later I am reading and writing more poetry than ever before. I have a Facebook page and a website where I showcase my work and seek out comments from my followers to improve my future work.
