For you (A Valentine love letter)
For you
For you, I’ll brave the rain, the cold, mid-winter air,
Instead of sitting lazily in my reclining chair.
For you, I’ll rack my brain for weeks, and bite my nails for hours,
To think of an alternative for chocolate, and for flowers.
For you, I’ll go to card shops, be bomarded by huge hearts,
And stare at cards in millions, not knowing where to start.
For you, I’ll suffer endless queues, of lovers young and old,
Listening to all those “funny” talking cards they’re sold.
For you, I’ll brave the swarming hordes, so keen to prove their love;
The helium balloons they hold – I’ll tell them where to shove!
For you, I’ll spend a load of cash, on cheesy, fluffy toys
With big pink hearts, that if you press, make a soppy noise!
For you, I’ll try in vain to book a candled meal for two
In an overcrowded restaurant(*) – it’s what I’m s’posed to do!
For you, I’ll buy a single rose, at much inflated price.
I’ll say “I Love You” once again – I’ll even say it twice!
For you, I’ll buy a heart-shaped cake, pink icing, sugar sweet.
I’ll even wrap a ribbon round it – Valentine’s complete!
For you, I’ll give you all these things in a heart-shaped bag,
Because I will do anything, just to get a shag!
