First Kiss

Light, as that of a butterfly wing
Tentative, unsure, seeking permission
Wanting, needing to make it wholesome
Seductive and daring in its frisson
The tenderness of that first stolen kiss
A culmination of covetous glances
The subliminal language of eye to eye
Sweet interpretation of another’s nuances
Lips part in the eyes a question
Too much, too fast, can this be
Heartbeat rampaging while the breath is held
Still you and I, or is it we
