Feeling Foolish
This poignant poem was written by Mike Rose …
Feeling Foolish
On New Year’s Day as she was leaving, she leaned back and blew a kiss
For quite a few days after, I remembered this
So a Valentines card was got
Would she accept me, would she not?
On the web I went to see what sort of card to send
After all she was a good and dear friend
Moonpig was the site I chose
I said it will have to be one of those
It said, “Will you be my Valentine”
I was hoping she would become more than just a friend of mine
The day it came and it went
Had that card really been sent
As the day had come and went
And not a message she had sent
Should I worry over this?
Had I upset this lovely Ms
On day three a text I got
I wondered what would be my lot
“Could I call in in twenty mins” the text did say
And she was on her way
Right on time the doorbell rang
And my heart it gave a twang
What would her answer be?
That was the thing that worried me
“Was it you this card did send”?
I had to admit it was in the end
“I am sorry I must say no
And I really now must go”
I still will be your friend
But this is where it must end
Now I feel so much a fool
I may have broken the golden rule
If your head says this is a no
Don’t let your heart say let’s go
This is a story, strange but true
That I here do bring to you
