Equilibrium
Today is National Poetry day and the theme is Environment.
Equilibrium
She flew over meadows
Over rivers & brooks
And held conversations
With articulate rooks
Who told her a tale
Of when mankind resided
And the balance of nature
Irreparably subsided
How they ravaged her soul
And ripped out her heart
And watched their green world
Slowly depart
How the creatures of woods
Of forests, and meadows
Had to flee from their dens
And warrens, and burrows
And so, became nomad
No home could they find
For wherever they roamed
So followed mankind
And the greenlands grew fewer
And sap spilled like blood
As trees were sent crashing
Into cold, lifeless mud
So, Mother Nature withdrew
And stopped all her growth
And to trees and the green
Pledged a great, sacred oath:
For when mankind are over
Their time on Earth done
Once more you shall flourish
Under a dazzling, new sun
“And, that time is now,”
So whispered the rook
And, itself, flew away
Over rivers & brooks
And through lush vibrant pastures
And, cloud haloed trees
Over blooms of all colours
In a land that grew free.
