End of an Autumn Day
End of an Autumn Day
Walking slowly home late in the afternoon
My long-legged silhouette catches the eye
Turning round to face the autumn sun
An orange globe hanging low in the sky
Its radiating golden slanting rays
Bathes all in a soft seasonal glow
At the end of a glorious autumn day
The dusky sunlight stages its show
Trees dressed in their carnival glitz
A triumphal burst of vivid colour
Stunning garland of gold, red & yellow
Leaves pirouette down to winter slumber
Mesmerised by autumn’s wondrous show
Sun’s reflections are pictures on display
As lengthening shadows stretch out before
Such sweet sadness – summer’s slipped away
Breathe in those earthy scents of autumn
Feel the strength of the sun is fading
As the crisp, clean air cools the skin
The grey of winter is awakening
