Do We Eat Or Do We Heat?
I was feeling annoyed about the ongoing energy crisis this morning and how it is affecting so many lives. My thoughts inspired this poem.
Do We Eat Or Do We Heat?
To the energy companies, I must declare
You cause us great concern
You’re taking lots of money
That we worked so hard to earn
We scrimp and save our whole lives long
To make an honest crust
But all you do is take, take, take
Without a care we could go bust
To the energy fat cats sitting pretty
We find it quire alarming
For your total disregard or care
For the many lives you’re harming
You’re ramping up the standing charge
Please, pray, do tell us why
And then on top, the price per unit
You’ve ramped it up sky high
If we dare to cancel our direct debits
You threaten us once more
With a higher tariff and standing charge
Now that, we do implore!
With further increases looming large
Many already fear defeat
You have no idea the quandary faced
Do we eat or do we heat?
Do you have a moral conscience?
Do you even care at all?
You enjoy your lavish profits
While the millions around you fall
