DIY Dilemma

I’d always wanted countertops to equal those I’d seen
In DIY advertisements in glossy magazines
“It’s just a piece of granite” my handy hubby shouts
“Those contractors are all cowboys” he looks at me and pouts

“Never mind the backsplash it’s a very easy job”
He’d set the tiles himself and save us a few bob
“I’ll get those free quotes dear” it’s the usual thing to do
“Go ahead and call them in” he shouts as his thoughts begin to stew

If we do all the prep work it’ll bring the price way down
“Just lever off the laminate love”
I look at him and frown

The old tops were a bugger they finally did come free
The sink and taps were easier as cuss words flew from me
To fit the tiles I dreamed of a mosaic work of art
Would necessitate  a ‘Tiler’ that’d be the dodgy part

The granite tops look amazing my hubby did admit
‘His’ tiling looked professional I helped him with the fit
When it comes to renovating it’s knowing what to do
To get what ‘he’ wanted when really it was you
