Same Day … Same Month … Next Year

Same Day … Same Month … Next Year

I stand quietly in the high street shop..rows of cards on show,
Remembering my early years..before love began to grow.
Teenage infatuations..thoughts of perfect love for life,
Always searching for the right girl..who might become my Wife.

Falling in and out of love..bouts of happiness then heartache,
Disappointment too..or feeling that my heart would break.
Kisses on the doorstep..then driving home alone,
Endless conversations..upon the family phone.

Wishing days would fly by..till you could meet again,
Then love died between you..and your sun turned into rain.
I wonder where they all are now..the girls I used to know,
I wonder if they ever think of me..I bet the answers no.

My thoughts are interrupted..by someone reaching for a card,
So many different choices..makes selection really hard.
Eventually I find the one..that I was searching for,
And I wander down to join the queue..at the till just by the door.

I look at all the faces..waiting patiently to pay,
And I wonder who the loved one is..that’s in their thoughts today
So back out on the high street..find a cafe..and buy a tea,
Write loving words within the card……WITH ALL MY LOVE..FROM ME.

Next port of call..the flower shop..forget-me-nots and roses red,
Jump on the bus and flash my pass..thinking of the year we wed.
I was a very lucky man..to have had..such a happy married life,
So many blissful lovely years..with a loving caring wife.

The sun is shining weakly..as I step down from the bus.
I find a bench and sit awhile..thinking of the two of us.
Is it really four long years..since we said our last goodbye,
I feel a breeze caress my brow..like a gentle angels sigh.

So I lay the card and flowers..in the place I always do,
The peaceful place where you lie asleep..beneath the spreading yew.
I tell you all the family news..that I think you’d like to hear,
Whisper..goodbye..I will come back..same day..same month..next year.

Not a lot to tell...just an ordinary man...always loved writing but never had the time until now...hope I've got a few years left to write about the million things I would like to get down on paper be it in poetry form or just plain old story telling. Just in case anyone would like me to come along to their group and read a few of my poems live..I would be happy to do so within the confines of Kent or Sussex...I would just need to cover my time and petrol costs...plus a cup of tea and a biscuit. Just email [email protected] To answer some of your questions= ex-army..ex -jackeroo...ex-builder..ex-quite a few other things..still rocking...married...2 + 3 children...7 grandchildren...retired...love custard creams. I have now published my first collection of poems which are now available on Amazon under the title of..LAST APPLE ON THE TREE. The book consists of twenty seven poems covering a wide range of topics and emotions. My second book has just been published and is called A BREEZE IN THE WILLOWS, also available on Amazon. I hope that everyone will get as much enjoyment reading them, as I did writing them.
