Countdown to Brexit

Countdown to Brexit

“I’m fed up” said Nigel “With this team we all joined
“Our chocolates rebranded, our fish stocks purloined,
Let’s make our own choices, restore law and order,
Create our own rules and control every border”

“Alright then,” said David “We’ll let the folk choose”
Never dreaming that his side could possibly lose.
There was no need to plan, that would be such a pain,
He was sure the electors would want to remain.

Then along came the tour bus with Boris inside,
And the promise of millions displayed with great pride,
While the ‘stay in’ campaign made a pretty poor show,
So it’s hardly surprising most voted to go.

‘Not a problem’ we thought ‘We need not fill with fears,
For our great politicians have over two years.
We will trust in their goodness, we will do what they say,
And she seems pretty balanced, that nice Mrs May’

Looking back though, I wonder she took on the role
To unite politicians after such a close poll
With a third wanting in, and a third wanting out,
And the rest in-between, though they all like to shout!

And the voters, the people, like you and like me,
Are just watching and waiting for more certainty
Whether leave or remain, we can’t help but feel scared,
That the MPs we trusted were so unprepared.
