Christmas thank you’s
I thought this might amuse some of you. I wrote this a few years ago….
Christmas thank you’s
Dear Auntie Kate you were so kind
To make that lovely sweater with me in mind.
It has such a lovely picture of Winnie The Pooh
I’m sure it will suit me even though I’m 42.
And Fred says thank you for the lovely tie
With a pattern that really catches your eye.
It goes with the shirt you sent him last year –
the one that was labelled ‘psychedelic gear’.
Little Annie was ever so pleased with the knickers
Though she was rather hoping for a pair of ‘Kickers‘.
And Mark was really thrilled with the two pairs of socks
He said they looked like him when he had chickenpox.
Dear Great Grannie thanks for the book –
you know I’ve never been a brilliant cook.
I’m sure it will, one day, be put to good use:
‘200 Turkey recipes’ – what a shame we had goose.
And Fred says thanks for the Subutteo game
though please let me assure you it wasn’t to blame
for the fact that we spent the morning in A & E
And Fred’s now in plaster up to his knee.
You muddled the children’s presents
and sent Annie a bottle of sherry ….
We didn’t get up ‘till 9am –
by then she was rather merry.
It really didn’t suit her
I’m sure you’ll agree
But our Mark looks rather cute
with a dolly on his knee.
Well Christmas is over and the thank you’s are done.
Now it’s time for the sales – oh what fun –
Join the queues, but not to buy………………..
But to swap the dolly, the socks and the tie
(P.S. Please send us money next year!!)
