Casino

This amusing poem is based on a recent experience by Irene Kerr when on holiday visiting a casino in Alberta.

Casino

The hotel/resort came into view a truly awesome sight
A five star rated home from home where we would stay the night

The lobby was amazing adorned by native art
A crimson liveried doorman
made us welcome
from the start

The perfumed conditioned air was pleasant to inhale
The reception staff so friendly
Instead of stiff and stale

After several tries in vain to use the elevator
‘Swipe to ascend then press your floor’ we figured out much later

Our room was so attractive much to our delight
Obviously designed to please
everything staged just right

We freshened up and had a drink just before our dinner
The hotel restaurant advertised appeared to be a winner

A prime rib meal for under ten
to that who would say no
We’d dine in style and enjoy ourselves
Play slots at the casino

Know your limit and play within it is the golden rule
The first few wins exhilarated
we were nobody’s fool

The five cent bets were low enough to attract our attention
The free rolls kept us playing
relieving some mild tension

Those golden sphinxes called to us just three for free to roll
What’s another hundred bucks
alarm bells began to toll

Suddenly the slots went cold an arctic wind blew in
We’d need to up our ante much to our chagrin

Lady Luck abandoned us and headed out the door
Before we spent another dime we’d better leave the floor

Those feline pyramids were gone not a line in sight
It was time to get out of dodge
it wasn’t worth the fight

The tasty meal we’d enjoyed and it’s priced right robust vino
Served up at the bar strategically placed in the large casino

We were the pawns in an old game so expertly orchestrated
The house would win eventually while punters left frustrated

Remember moderation in everything is the key
To continue to enjoy good times and good company
