Cannibals and Pirates
Cannibals and Pirates
The deep blue sea, glides slowly by,
Soft white clouds, in a light blue sky.
The distant horizon, so far away,
A place where whales and dolphins play.
The sun beats down and warms the soul,
And the ship moves on, with a gentle roll.
Somewhere ahead, too far to see,
A coral island calls to me.
Boy-hood dreams of a calm lagoon,
Star lit nights under a tropic moon,
The sound of surf on a distant reef,
Gentle rain on a palm tree leaf.
Cannibals and pirates, buried treasure tales,
Hurricanes and cyclones, typhoons and gales.
Dusky maidens dancing, warriors having wars,
Shipwrecked sailors all alone, on far off distant shores.
The South Pacific Ocean, which I’d always longed to see,
Is now spread out on all sides and in the middle..there is me.
No cannibals or pirates, just people on a cruise,
Far away from problems, and the worlds depressing news.
So I lie back on my sun-bed, and dream of how it used to be,
When ships were made from forests, and utensils from a tree.
When people lived in harmony, with very little strife,
Before western ways and culture, destroyed a way of life,
