Back where I belong

Back where I belong

Bring me back, where I belong,
To hear again your gentle song,
Let me rest, evermore at your side
Lay me soft, at your feet,
Where the magic waters meet,
And where nothing will ever divide.

Leave me here, then walk away,
But come once more another day,
To remember this fellow you knew.
Close your eyes, look around,
Sense the smell and hear the sound,
See my footstep, still wet, in the dew.

Here I stood, with my bride,
Full of love, and full of pride,
Here my heart, here my memory long.
Lay me soft, – then let go,
And while the gentle waters flow,
Then forever you will hear my lover’s song.

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
