August Adventure
August Adventure
The smokey haze from forest fires hung heavy in the air
Eating up our oxygen blocking sunshine everywhere
We gladly headed for the coast and new adventures there
To once again walk by the tide and gaze upon the mer
We drove through Kicking Horse and the Rogers Pass
On freshly laid paved highway edged by flowers and mountain grass
It seemed summertime had ended on that dark and dismal day
Rain showered upon us as we journeyed on our way
Playing Carly Simon while we sang along
Recalling precious memories captured in a song
South along the ‘Coq’ tracing an old railway route
Through the Cascade mountain range many miles passed underfoot
At last the air was fresh and clear much to our delight
Our spirits soared as we travelled on the sun was warm and bright
Familiar scenes came into view each milestone gladly met
Simon and Garfunkels hits accompanied our descent
The swaying trees seemed to say goodbye as we hurried on
Leaving their serenity towards the urban throng
The sights and sounds of city life enveloped us once more
Catapulting our endeavour to reach the briny shore
To spend some time with family and dine by an ocean view
Without any question it’s our favourite thing to do
Preferred than any cruise or tour to far off distant lands
To share precious time together before it sifts out of our hands
