April Longing for Summer
April Longing for Summer
In April the sea’s too cold to swim in, though it can look ever so inviting
Though not today with its roar and crash, big waves, white foam, the sea rushes up.
Rushes up the beach covering the small stones, then retreats with its whooshing pebbly sound.
I sit on a large boulder, just out of the sea’s reach, just me, rocks, pebbles, sand on this small stretch of beach.
I relish being here, sitting on a rock of myriad hues, shades of grey, brown, yellow, cream, blue,
With what to me resembles a seam of quartz, glistening and dulling as the April sun comes and goes.
The wind is strong, I can feel it under my coat, it messes my hair
But just occasionally the sun breaks through the clouds, reminding me that it’s always been there.
I feel its April warmth on my face, a promise of summer, soon to come
When the wind will lessen, the waves will ease and May swimming can begin.
