Anglo-Saxons

Anglo-Saxons

I am reading the book she gave me
On the Anglo-Saxon Kings
It’s quite a detailed study
Of their way of life and things

The Romans, the Dark Ages
Then the coming of the boats
The tribes and where they settled
With their gold armbands and goats

The detail is terrific then came
Norseman and the Danes
They fought for their survival
The Saxon nobles and their thanes

And when they formed one country
Then did the warring cease
Until the Norman brigands came
To conquer, not in peace

They fought the foe most bravely
Near to the Sussex coast
But even they could not outfight
The Norman warrior host
