A Tiny Piece of England

A Tiny Piece of England

I sit at peace in the garden..at rest in the shade of a tree,
And I think of the things my gardens seen and what my gardens meant to me.
I think of the day when we first arrived..I remember the things that we planned,
I remember feeling excited..as we sat gazing around at our land.

Our tiny piece of England, which we could decorate with flowers,
It wasn’t massive..as some gardens are, but we loved it..because it was ours.
And so the seasons came and went, the beds and lawn took shape,
To us a place of beauty..even under winters cape.

Our children grew and flourished..they loved playing on the grass,
The garden also flourished..as it watched their childhood pass.
From toddlers through to teenage years, until they flew the nest,
Now grandchildren play upon the grass..while their parents have a rest.

I think about the pets we’ve had..two dogs and several cats,
Who’d lay in the shade on a hot summers day, awaiting their strokes and pats.
Now they lie in the earth in the flower beds..a sweet rose each to mark their spot.
Lovely memories of lovely times..as I sit in the shade when it’s hot.

The gardens seen our parents..when they used to come and visit or stay,
And it’s listened to us talking..as we’d sit whiling the day away.
The gardens watched us grow older, patiently waiting as we have slowed down,
Appreciated our company..instead of us always going to town.

Who loved this garden before me..I wonder what this garden saw then,
What hopes and dreams did it overhear..only shared with the tits and the wren.
So..as I sit at peace in the garden, in the shade of my favourite tree,
I hope the gardens next owners, will cherish and love it..just as much as me.

Not a lot to tell...just an ordinary man...always loved writing but never had the time until now...hope I've got a few years left to write about the million things I would like to get down on paper be it in poetry form or just plain old story telling. Just in case anyone would like me to come along to their group and read a few of my poems live..I would be happy to do so within the confines of Kent or Sussex...I would just need to cover my time and petrol costs...plus a cup of tea and a biscuit. Just email [email protected] To answer some of your questions= ex-army..ex -jackeroo...ex-builder..ex-quite a few other things..still rocking...married...2 + 3 children...7 grandchildren...retired...love custard creams. I have now published my first collection of poems which are now available on Amazon under the title of..LAST APPLE ON THE TREE. The book consists of twenty seven poems covering a wide range of topics and emotions. My second book has just been published and is called A BREEZE IN THE WILLOWS, also available on Amazon. I hope that everyone will get as much enjoyment reading them, as I did writing them.
