A September in paradise
Linger long, my sweet September, if but another day,
Give to me the sweetness, of your warming Autumn ray,
And let me bask in peacefulness when all is calm and still,
Among the pine and the wilderness, of the heather, on the hill.
Oh stay with me sweet paradise, when nature’s gifts endow,
With blackberry and damson there, and apple on the bough,
With bilberry still growing, and pear upon the tree,
And swallows swooping gaily, a wondrous sight for me.
Lie softly sweet September, with gentle loving breeze,
A ripple of a whispering among leaf-laden trees,
And sing your gentle song to me, as in your arms I lie,
Amid the calming wonder of vast and open sky.
Oh stay with me September and let me hold you long,
Before the Winter’s bitterness sings a sharper song,
Before the hardened frost and darkness, sweep your love away,
Please, stay with me September, if but another day!
