A Pride of Lionesses

A Pride of Lionesses

The European champions
Hold the world in their hands
‘Bring it home, Bring it home’
Comes the chant from the stands

The breath of England
Heaves shallow in wait
But, these Lionesses
Are the key to our fate

They have passion and strength
And a will to achieve
Each heart and each soul
Worn firmly on sleeve

For 57 years
We’ve huffed and we’ve puffed
Both boys & the girls
Not quite having enough

But, these girls… these girls
These Lionesses!
Are not encumbered by a past
That still seeks to suppress us

La Roja will fight
But, these girls can roar
Dust themselves down
Pick themselves off the floor

Find that killer pass
Find the will, find the way
Find the goal and the glory
To make it their day

Immortality waits
For Wiegman’s team
Already an inspiration
To follow your dreams

Be it men, or women
To be at the top of your game
Generation to come
Will emulate in your name

So, come on Lionesses!
One final ROAR!
Sweet Caroline awaits
For English voices to soar!

Write your names, not in sand
But, in eternal stone
And find your rightful place
Upon the world’s footballing throne!

Ha’way the lasses!
