A Lover’s Promise
A Lover’s Promise
This day, of emotion, when true love is sworn,
Of un-ending devotion, from love’s breaking dawn,
And long after ageing has darkened the day,
Till the life in my body, has had its last say.
A heart that is swollen with memory deep,
A mind that is striven, that thought there to keep,
A love that forever, holds strong and will stay,
Till the life in my body, has had its last say.
A pledge that was binding, ‘to have and to hold’,
A small binding token, a ring made of gold,
And never that promise to shatter or fray,
Till the life in my body, has had its last say.
A love I hold deeply, a love strong and true,
A love, ‘sworn forever’, devoted to you,
A love, brightly shining, on open display,
Till the life, in my body, has had its last say.
